Tell us a little bit about yourself! What are your hobbies? Why are you studying artificial intelligence? Anything else we should know?

Hello everyone, I am Nikola Radan, a grade 11 IB student in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. I am a jazz musician that plays 9 instruments and is a member of 2 senior school bands. I am the head of the UCC Long Term Investment Club. I skateboard and play sports including Hockey, Baseball, Track and Field, Xcountry, and swimming. I am also a fan of coding and creating websites in HTML, CSS, and JS in my spare time or for clubs at UCC. I am studying Artificial Intelligence (AI) because it is a new field of coding for me. Friends and teachers have introduced me to it and I took the step to learn more about it in the Stanford Inspirit AI program this past August.

What was your AI Scholars experience like? Who was your instructor and what was it like working with them? What project did you work on?

Going into the program I was nervous. I was not comfortable in coding in Python, but because of my experience in other languages like HTML, CSS, JS, and C+ I was placed in the “Experienced Group” with the instructor Sophia Barton. On the first day, the group moved quickly, but I took my note son Google Colab and studied them after class to stay on top of the curriculum. The curriculum included Python Basics, NumPy arrays, graph sketching, accuracy visualization of CNN’s, etc. Sophia always answered my questions and I got so comfortable with her as my teacher I was sad to see her move on to her group project.

After 2 days I moved into my selected group for coding my group project called “Distracted Drivers”. In this group the instructor was Sebastian Mendez, I loved him as soon as I met him! He was open to questions about himself or the curriculum in general. He would always take questions and review work If anyone asked him to (I did ). Some of the work in Google Collabs including DNN’s, CNN’s, TLM(Transfer Learning Models), Training and Testing data, ethics, and visualizing accuracy with different graph sketches. Seems like a lot, but it was super fun!

For the next couple of days, we blew through the last Google Collabs for our project. We finished our project early and got working on our presentation for the final meeting. My group members Ana, Iliyan, Rebecca, and Rorie all worked on the presentation on the final day. This presentation shows doff our code, its accuracy, the building flowchart, and its application.

The following day we presented to the other groups, took questions, watched the other presentations, and that was it for my Inspirit Experience. Until I became an Ambassador of course :).

What AI topic will you be writing about in your blog? Describe your topic in detail!

It was hard to land on a topic for this blog but I have chosen the future of Neural Networks and Frameworks for the Internet of Things. This includes privacy and security, the next generation of applications, Financials of IoT, Deep Learning Neural Networking, LSTM’s, and much more!

The Internet of things is being used more and more, its application is growing at an exponential rate. With new AI frameworks being added, what does this mean for the future of the IoT? Will the be greater usage? How will these new frameworks be used? What about the Privacy Policy of the IoT? I will try and answer these questions and more in my next post!

Who is your target audience? Why should they be interested in your blog?

This blog is aimed at Programmers you don't need to program, be into AI, or even understand anything I stated above. I'm learning just as much about this field as you will in these next couple of weeks. This is a book that I want to open with my readers. If you do understand the IoT and want to learn more about it, then this blog is also aimed at you, not only to read it but rather to understand more about the field.

What are you hoping to achieve with your blog?

I am hoping to achieve a better understanding of this topic and help others do as well. I want this to be a journey of author and reader to better comprehend what this changing industry means for the future. I also hope that any reader that reads this blog will build a love and passion for AI as I did this past summer. It is an amazing topic and industry and I would love for more people to get into AI and generate a new passion and/or hobby for their future!

And with that, I will see all of you readers on Sunday!

I hope you all have an amazing end to your week and be productive over the weekend!

Cheers,

Nikola Radan
